"hArt" team counts 5 members who love Innovation and Art. Gianmarco Merlini is one of the members and co-founder of the project. Born in 1992, he is a pianist and composer, who actually is attending the academy named "Educational Music Academy" of the famous italian composer Roberto Cacciapaglia. He composed three albums of minimal/neoclassical music and is contributing to value artworks, in particular abstracionism, with the aim to create a "visual music" through drawings.
"hArt" project creates an abstract artwork that represents the exhibition of musicians while playing the musical instrument during a specific moment. The drawing at the end of the exhibition is made considering not just the melody but also the characteristics of the environment (temperature, humidity, movement and brightness). In particular, "hArt" consists of a robot, with sensors, that moves on a painting canvas drawing curves, lines, geometric shapes and changing colors based on data/information of: a) the melody playes with a keyboard, piano or other musical instrument b) the caracteristics of the environment. The aim of the project is to value the concept of "synesthesia" - cooperation of senses, view and hearing - through a "visual music". Technology, with its great potential, helps us to reach this ambitious goal and artists such as W. Kandinskij, John Cage, Jackson Pollock, Paul Kleee and Piet Mondrian surely represent key names that drives us during our stusies.
The name of the project, "hArt", derives from the two words "hardware" and "Art". The name wants to unify Art made by musicians with the role of technology as that tool that can helps human beings to show the essence, the "heart", of their artwork.
Finally we can say that "hArt" is not just the drawings but is more, it is the entire experience of creation. It is not just important the final artwork but what you feel while composing it. At Artooms Roma the hArt team would like to show paintings and, if possible, "hArt" in action, with a keyboard and the robot that creates the drawings.
