Biography

I am a surrealist painter who attempts to make a psychological connection on my audience. The interpretation of my artwork is not the only important aspect of the work; it is also about the bond of empathy between the audience and the artist. I create the different atmosphere from the outside world by arranging elements together, which are not supposed to be together. I show coexistent and harmony by using unrealistic arrangement and places. Using humans, animal figures and nature landscape backgrounds as the subject of my paintings, I am interested in exploring the relationship between multiple figures, or figures and backgrounds.

Yet, I intend my audiences to interpret my work with their personal experiences. Breaking limitation of using limited space and ordinary notion, I work with un-finished edge including un-stretched canvas. This led me to understand and further my imagination and interpretation. I wish my audience to approach my paintings with unlimited definitions.

Project

Having been selected as one of artists who were fortunate enough to present at Artrooms Seoul 2018, I look forward to have another opportunity to present what I have developed after my first art fair.

This art fair is so unique in the way that it holds a lot of themes in one hotel; by means, behind every door, there lies totally different arts. By presenting the artworks in each room, all the artists including myself were able to make a place wherever they want to be as an artist. Every audience who entered my room complimented my works by providing feedbacks that my paintings suggest that they are at the zoo or somewhere like a jungle. All of my paintings include animal figures collaged into unordinary nature settings.

At Artrooms Roma, I would like to communicate with new audiences I am eager to find out whether these new audiences would provide similar feedbacks from Seoul. I believe everyone has different point of view and that is the purpose why I keep making art.

Some of my pieces are un-stretched; thus, I would like to utilize my paintings as fabrics used at hotel room. For example, I will hang my paintings like a curtain, lay my paintings like a bedding, or put my paintings at the towel rack like one of towels. Additionally, I am planning to present other pieces such as stretched paintings or drawings at unexpected places like inside of the fridge, on top of toilet, or using the fan or lighting at the hotel room.
